USING PEN, SPECTACLES AND THE AUTHOR’S HANDWRITING INSPIRED BY MOLLY BLOOMS SOLILOQUY FROM THE CLOSING CHAPTER OF JAMES JOYCE’S FAMOUS CLASSIC ‘ULYSSES’.

‘YES’ and ‘MOLLY’

Back in the teens I was taking part in a James Joyce group at the Irish consulate that gathered to read Ulysses. I created a little Joycean piece to mark the time. A little block bearing spectacles, pen and paper inscribed in his handwriting with the word Yes. Inspired by Molly Blooms famous soliloquy, the longest sentence of the 20th century in which she says ‘yes’ 92 times.
In 2022, the centennial of his masterpiece, I created a piece for the occasion. Taking Molly’s Yes’s, 90 little blocks and the title, ‘Yes, I will Yes’, I made up the 92 times she utters Yes, her last word, the last word in the book.

The individual  ‘Yes’ pieces are available in the store.
