l’Ange

‘l’Ange’ / ‘Angel’ by Jim Savage is an encaustic painting created in 1995 currently in a private collection. Testing the parameters of the material in a fusion of painting and sculpture I was pushed the limits of the encaustic medium. The high relief is painted up with palette knife techniques, fused at each pass with a blowtorch as encaustic, meaning ‘to burn in’ requires. Shown is one of five bas relief castings I took of it.
